Kapa Haka Performence

On Wednesday the 28th of August, the Burnham School / kapahaka group went to the C.B.S Arena to perform for the Cultural Festival that happens every year. The songs we sung on stage were ( in order ) Toia Mai, then the haka version of Toia Mai, Standing in the Shadow of Tu ( made up by Keri ), Ma Te Kahukura and E Tu Hokuwhitu. In my own opinion I believe that the performance went well and smoothly except for the fact that it was really rushed.I loved the song we sung, it was both thrilling and fun

Manu Tukutuku

This is my feather that I made.To make it I had to firstly research Maori designs because the country I was given was NewZealand. Once I had my designs I drew them into my art book to play around with to try and make it look really cool. Once I had perfected my design I drew it onto a template to make are sure it fit the feather. after that i drew it onto a piece of fabric cut out to look like a feather.

My feather is going to go on a bird that looks like that.

The reason we are making this is for the cultural festival.

( I think it looks AWESOME! )

The Marauders Box

This is my awesome box that I made at hard materials. I designed it to show how much I love Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. Next time when I make a box I want to put more detail in it. I write marauders map on it because it was awesome.

My Epic Tessellations

A tessellations are shapes that can be put together and when they are put together there are no gaps.
The shapes that I have used are hexagons, stars, triangles, and quadrilaterals.
My shapes have been tessellated by being rotated, translated and reflected.

Should Tourism Be Allowed In Antarctica

People have many different opinions and views that concern the issue of Antarctic Tourism. Some view it as a negative, and some view it as positive but tourism has both it's ups and downs.

Ships started visiting Antarctica in the 1950s. An Argentinian vessel which carried a hundred passengers was the first ship to go visit Antarctica. Most cruise ships that go to Antarctica are coordinated and don't get to stay very long. people that do get to visit it, describe it as a jem hidden in the rough.

Antarctic wildlife is fascinating. The scientist took an interest in them and made documentries, so whats wrong if people want to see them with their own eyes? The Antarctic wildlife has proven to be one of the most amazing creatures because of the climate they can survive in and the way they live their lives. Why shouldn't people be allowed to see them?

In addition to this, the scientist believe that tourists would pollute and destroy the enviroment. However tour operators argue that this could be avoided if tourists were monitered and more laws were estabilished.

However if tourists and tour operators came to Antarctica, will they all follow the rules? Mst people like the danger that Antarctica brings and go to look for it. It is scientifically proven that humans are curious creatures and if  they sense danger, people will run to it, not away.

In Antarctica, there is no hospitalities available to the tourists. Do people honestly believe its viable to buil these hotels and such? If men go to Antarctica to build these buildings for people to stay in, it won't be an easy task. It would be hard to work in the cloths and the weather that you would have deal with.

Some people say that with steady laws and more monitoring system we would be able to allow tourists into Antarctica. However the danger is to high and people could get hurt. Sometimes when your having fun people get reckless. What if people get reckless in Antarctica? That could lead to serious issues.

To conclude this I strongly believe that people should not be allowed to go to Antarctica because there are too much risk. How would you feel if someone in your family went to Antarctica and got hurt?

Tibetan Flags

My flag symbolises the peace and the fact the everyone around the world helps everyone out.
The best part about my design is the earth because it looks really cool. I made sure that I took my time with it so that it turned out really well.
Next time I will change the fact that some of the people I made look a bit off and weird but it still looks pretty alright.

Term 1 Goal Reflections

My 3 goals this term were to build a bigger vocabulary list to use in my writing. Learn to multiply decimal and to lead a school sports day.

I have achieved building a bigger vocabulary because I have changed a lot of words that are repeatedly used in my book. Each time I write something new I make sure that I grab a thesaurus and either change words or compliment other words. I have also used topic related words when I have been writing my A.N.Z.A.C speech so it sounds more formal.

For my multiplying decimals I do not think that i have reached my goal because I haven't really had any chance to work on it. I plan to make sure that i learn to multiply decimals by term 3.

My goal to lead a sports day hasn't been completed but it's on it's way. I applied for the student leadership council in hopes that I could promote my idea to other students. I have been planning my idea in my free time so that I am all prepared if they like my idea.

My Swimming Assesment

YouTube Video

My swimming has improved because I focused on what I was doing and tried my hardest.
My next step in swimming is learning how to do a tumble turn and working on my freestyle so I can glide really fast above the water.

My Life Story

My Grandfathers Death

It was 2006 when it happened, but I remember it clear as day. I remember watching his closed eyelids and touching his cold hands. I remember watching him lay there on one stop, unmoving. My grandmother was crying on my mothers shoulder and my brother (Tahemaka) just standing there waiting for grandad to open his eyes. I was still very young so I wasn't quit sure what was going on so I asked dad "what happened to grandad?" and dad replied "he is in a better place."

Championship

3 years after my grandfathers death I was up and about playing netball. I played for Burnham and our coaches name was Sarah. Sarah trained us hard but there were no complaints from us because we wanted to win and we were going to try and make that happen. Finally the day of the big game had arrived. We were basically jumping around in our netball dresses. We were waiting for this for along time, for the finals. W played hard and a few people got injured (though all the players that got hurt were on the opposing team). Although we lost the finals we felt that we tried our best and in the end that's all that mattered, well other than the fact that we improved a lot.

Tower of Terror

It happened when I was 10 years old. W were in Australia, Brisbane or where ever Dream World is we were going on the Tower of Terror. I was scared as hell just watch ing the ride. Finally it was our turn so we hoped not are seats. I was prepared for anything except going backwards. When we started I was terrified because I totally thought that we were going to go forward but it turns out we were going to go backwards so it was a bit of a surprise to me. We just got faster and faster and faster. I was frightened to death because we just kept going up. When it was finally over I could fell the adrenalin rush up me, I had never felt like this before in my whole life, I felt like I could do anything.

Alone in the World

2013 is my first year alone without my brother. No brother to make fun of me. N brother to distract me. Just me myself and I. There is some things that I miss like how we can't play games together at school and how I can't challenge him. School life was really difficult for me because I always tried to be better than him at everything so I don't live in his shadows.  Always thought that we were gonna be in the same class so we can annoy one another and frustrate each other, but we get enough of that at home. This is my last year at primary and I intend to make the most of it with or without my brother.

The Amazing Life of Taleah

Kia ora my name is Taleah and I'm gonna tell you about my fantastic life.

I have one brother named Tahemaka. My mothers name is Gin and my fathers is Lino. I have a dog named Jandel and she is really cute.
My hobbies include playing sports and making music. I love to read and write. I like to watch cartoons and draw cartoons, I also love to bake.
I would have too say that my personality can change in an instant, one minute I am happy and talkative, then next I am quit and perfer to be left alone.
I was born in my old home by the Rolleston church and than I was brought to a hospital.
My brother is only a year older then I am, but he is better than me at everything.
I enjoy movies and books because they make me think of amazing adventures and an abnormal life from the same day to day routine I have going on now.
I go to a school that's outside an army camp and we sometimes get to watch the NewZealand army band perform for our school.
I like to learn new things every day and that's why I am glad that I go to school because there I get to experience new things that I wouldn't get to see if I was homeschooled.
I'm part Samoan and part Maori and I'm proud of my split culture because it shows that I am different in my own way.
